Extrapolation. The extension of something existing, something real, up to an unknown limit. When we look at our lives, when we think about it, we can imagine the next moment, the next hour, a tomorrow. Hence, we plan, we make schedules. We imagine how we’ll have eggs for breakfast, maybe some biriyani for lunch, and sleep early to wake up earlier tomorrow.
Plans and expectations are simply a creative extrapolation. We extrapolate our current and past experiences with a steeper slope value than the current pathway of life. Optimism. Whereas a few of us extrapolate with a flatter/negative slope value. Pessimism.
Then there’s this funny glitch in saying “I don’t know what’s gonna happen”. This is so weird for our brain to say because for such an incomparably complex and advanced computer like our brain, it’s very unlikely to not be able to process an extrapolation, even though there’s no data scarcity. I mean you yourself experienced the experiences, you yourself lived through the life of yours, your brain has all that information. Even then, failing to somewhat predict what’s next and also acknowledging that it can’t deal with this one, is simply very weird.
Whoever is feeling like you don’t know what’s gonna happen next, you’re excited, nervous or maybe scared… I hope you find something positive. Something that’s worth it. Fact is, your brain might be a really good planner, but God is the best.
